THE HARTFORD INHERITANCE BY JANE A HOBDENMY REVIEW AND WHY I PICK FOR BOOK OF MONTH

THE HARTFORD INHERITANCE BY JANE A HOBDEN
WHY I PICK FOR BOOK OF MONTH
This is my november book of the month i picked this book cause i read two weeks ago . Now i am still thinking about the plot it still very much on my mind and that what mades the book a must read book jane may not be a author you know or have heard of but once you read you will look out for any book she writes . It just a gripping thriller you will loved it . It so well written and the story stays with you that why i had to pick over some of the well know books or author i read this month . I can not praise this book any more than my review say .I hope you will all look out for it

THE BLURB
Intense, gripping, psychological thriller.

As a child, Kitty Harmer had her world turned upside down when her twin sister, Sarah, was taken into care. Now aged 26 and struggling, she i…s contacted about the inheritance of a property she has never heard of miles away. Kitty seizes the opportunity and moves into Belford Hall, set on acres of land in Norfolk.
Kitty is soon drawn to the charms of the Norfolk countryside, and a local farmer. As she settles into the primitive manor house, she discovers a book titled Hartford Place locked in a library drawer. Kitty soon learns of the stories surrounding the Hall, a curse made in the 1800s and a past she knew nothing about. Her Hartford ancestors mirror Kitty with their raven hair and emerald eyes and have all suffered tragedy, with veiled secrets buried deep.
When the twins reunite, Sarah reveals a hardship that unsettles Kitty’s memories of her own childhood. Is there a curse on the Hartford family? Is there a ghostly presence at the Hall? This thriller takes Kitty on a journey through a past that emulates her future. With twists and turns through history and the present, you will be swept into the Hartford Inheritance and the passionate jealousy that shadows the identical twins through the generations.

WHAT I SAY
THIS WAS MY BOOK OF THE WEEK LAST WEEK 5 stars
When Jane asked me to read her book i was not to sure what it would be like but i said yes and i so glad i did i loved this book
. The book is only available as an ebook on Amazon. So please check it out on there .

It a captivating read full of twist and turns it a great psychological thriller which i do like . The plot just grip me the story is very powerful .

Kitty the main character she a lovely young women now but at a very young age her world was turn up side down her mum and dad send her twin Sarah away . They were all together they were there for each other they were best friends too or were they ? She was put into care Sarah did seem to be very naught as a child she seem to play up lots . Later in the book we do get to hear why she was like she was as a kid . Sarah when thought so much in her life we do get to hear all what happen to her it was very tough for her i say .

Kitty seem to cope very well but she missed Sarah so much she just seem to be getting on with her life she was now 27 but she seem to have no goal or aim in her life was she happy with her life her boyfriend ? I say not but you have to read to see what you think?

But one day her life just change for the better . She was contacted about the inheritance of Belford Hall it was set in acres of land she jumps at the change to move there .i liked how she soon won over the local people and one farmer seem to be very keen on her .

It was so nice to hear all about how she settle into the Hall. We get to hear about each room which i enjoy some were a bit creepy i thought i could see that all in my mind . Wow the library had some great books in there i loved hearing about this creepy dark room i did not like the hall it was way to creepy for me .

Kitty found in a locked drawer a book this book holds lots of great story’s of this great hall we find out lots of secrets of this hall and her family that lived there . I did feel a bit of history of the hall was added to this story but i was not sure i did feel like Jane had done a lot of research or just her imagination was just very good i may be wrong i not sure i have to ask if the hall is not real .i did ask jane and she said
I was right that Belford Hall and Hartford House are not real, both are a figment of her imagination. That just show what a fab writer she is this is her first book you did think a lot of research had been done on a very old hall and house you could see the setting so clear in your head .

By finding this book we get to hear two different times in the story the past was told so well both the past and present are told so clearly and mixed so well into one story you will be hooked to see what going to happen next .

There seem to be a few identical twins throughout the generations . Why were there all so a like
What was the curse ?
Was there any ghosts or was it in kitty mind ?

As i said at the start when kitty moved in i think she was just coping with her life but now she seem to want more from her life she become more passion about things . I just want her to be happy Could she be ?
Both sister i felt were just so opposite to each other when Sarah came back into the story my heart when out to her this poor girl . No child should have to go through what she did . Her life was so hard hope did she cope she was a very troubled young women she a very deep character a bit hard to read . Can both sister get what they want ? Can they find happiness again ?

I have to say the end was very good a very great twist but i wanted more i want to know what happen next ? Is there another book ? I wanted to hear more about the hall being finished did kitty stay there ? Did she get married there ?what about her ring ? But that what makes it a fab book it left me wanting to know more

The whole book was just so good to read . The writing style was very clear and easy to follow when it swap to past or present . It just packed with mystery i loved all the twist to the plots it very clever you just get pulled into the plot you could see and felt it all just a wonderful written book i will be looking out for Janes books from now on a fab new author for me
5 stars read enjoy keep you may like to read again i like to thank jane for sending me her book to review please check it out

HERE A BIT ABOUT JANE

I live in hastings (the battle of 1066) in East Sussex. I’ve loved writing since I was a young child. I’m in my late 30s with two children aged 11 and 6. My daughter Harriet aged 11 is an incredible writer and she loves books as do I. We both read an incredible amount of books. When Harriet was much younger she said she wanted to be an author when she grew up. When I said I did too she couldn’t understand why I hadn’t written a book.

Over the next 3 years I wrote The Hartford Inheritance. It actually only took me 6 months but then in 2013 I contracted strep A a toxic shock infection that attacks your bones. I was v v ill and in hospital for two weeks. It took me 6 months to get the use of my left hand back from the two operations and quite a while to get over the emotional aspect of the affect on my children, myself and my husband. It’s made me want to prove myself, to live each day to the full and it pushed me on to edit and finally publish my debut book.

I adore my family and I cherish the people close to me. I’m a big fan of book bloggers and buy books on their recommendations only. Because of this I can’t remember the last time I read a book I didn’t love.

Amanda Jayne thank u for reviewing my book. It really means a lot to me.

Jane any time i just loved it . Here the amazon link to jane book please check it you will love it so much

THE GOOD GIRL BY MARY KABICA my review 4 stars

Aj book review club's photo.Aj book review club's photo.

THE GOOD GIRL BY MARY KABICA
THE BLURB

I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don’t know the colour of her eyes or what they look like when they’re scared. But I will.

Mia Dennett can’t resist a one-night stand with the enigmatic stranger she meets in a bar.

But going home with him might turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life…

An addictively suspensful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems…

WHAT I SAY
What a gripping read is so fast paced and omg the tensions so full on you do feel a bit nervous with what going on at times what could happen next .
It full of suspense i felt it was a very thrilling read . The plot may shock you to i think you got to read

At first you think it a perfect family but then you will see they are not that perfect at all . It just full of twists and turns
Judge Dennet Mia dad he very wealthy and he very much into art . He like to be in controller of his life . He also was a bully i felt what did you think ?
He could not see that his daughter had gone missing
Her mum Eve she was so beautiful and full of life . She know something was not right with her daughter when she was missing the book wrote from her point of view . She struggles to keep going she sure she dead

Gabe the detective handing the case he going to find Mia . He seem a very gentle man . I like that you got a little bit about the case in each chapter . What was going on with Gabe ?

Colin the abductor he a very deep character you will want to kill him but then you will love him he such a deep character to read but i enjoy trying to work him out . I got to say i did like him at lot he seem so nice at times.

One morning Eve got a call from Mia work saying she not turn up for work
Eve was a bit unsettled but not worried at this point but then she became so worried by this at bit later now .
she knew something had happen had Mia been kidnapped or were was she ?
The book takes us on mia life we hear she was safe a the beginning she was safe .Mia a very nice girl i did think she was a spoilt rich kid she had a very hard life and time i felt .
I did like her relationship with colin what did you think? I did think her family life was so hard i did feel her life was not good .Her behaviour was a bit wried but you do get to hear why i would love to tell you more but i want you to read it . The plot very good .

The book makes you see that family life behind closed doors may not be what you think .
Sometimes a snap decision one night can be so wrong or can it ?
The flashbacks and the present day are very good they seem to mix in so well
I would have like a bit more from Mia point of view .We do hear a lot from Eve and Colin .

I did not guess the end at all it a real page turner you will be just so surprised at the story
We should all ways remember things are not all ways what they seem to be that how i tell you about this book it just a gripping book
4 stars read enjoy pass on

BREAKING LOVE BY MJ.SUMMERS my review

Aj book review club's photo.

BREAKING LOVE BY MJ.SUMMERS
THE BLURB
Seductive. Heartwarming. Passionate.

Luc Chevalier is a satisfied man – or so he thinks. His businesses are thriving, he has all the excitement, money and beautiful women any man could want. He dines at the best restaurants and stays at the most luxurious hotels as he makes his way around the globe. So why does he suddenly find himself so restless?

Megan Sullivan is a single mom with a rather ordinary life. She is comfortable with things just the way they are. She has a six-year-old son, Elliott, a cozy house in Boulder, Colorado, and a photography business to put food on the table. Her ex lives hours away in Florida, providing enough space for him to feed his drug addiction without exposing Elliott to his father’s illness. Megan is on her own and she intends to keep it that way.

Megan is convinced by her best friend to take a trip to Paris for a few days. Little does she know she is about to be thrust into the arms of Luc Chevalier, the sexiest man to ever set foot on the Eiffel Tower. They agree to one night together and no more. In those few short hours he manages to draw out the passionate woman that Megan has carefully hidden way for years. Once she has a taste of what she’s been missing, she finds it almost impossible to go back to her life as it was.

Will two people who don’t believe in happily-ever-after manage to put aside their doubts and find their forever? Join Luc as he discovers that everything he never wanted is the only thing he will ever need.

WHAT I SAY
I really did enjoy this book it a romantic book but also packed with drama . This is the second book in the full hearts series but you can read as a standalone book which i did .
I will say some of the scenes were a bit steamy but then other were so romantic which was nice to read about but i got to say i did find the plot a bit. Predictable at times but i still enjoyed this book . I got pulled into the story from the first few pages .

Luc and Megan are the main characters both are very deep characters sometimes a bit hard to read both seem to be enjoying their life’s as they were but on that day they first saw each other they seem to hit it off straight a way you could feel all the passion between them .

Luc lives in Paris .women just seem to love him and all always fall for him but he never met the women of his dreams until he saw Magan is she his dream girl ?
He got a flash car and lots of money . He so good looking too what more could you want in a man !
He seem to be love em and leave them kind of man or was that until now ? He seem to be falling for Magan i think?
I felt he was just a nice kind caring man with the world as his feet .

Magan was a single mum and what a fab mum she was too . She seem so happy but is she happy ?
She been hurt before and is not going to let any man hurt her or her son every again . She does not want her son unhappy he got to come first just like we all say . She not sure want to be involved we another man she got a happy life in the USA

Both character are so different to each other you could just feel they would work well together. Which i think they did what do you think?

I love that Magan when to Paris a met Luc he just such a great guy for her . They both seem to have fun.
Could this be the start if something good ? What do you think?
You just get pulled into this story you will be hooked just so you can see what going to happen next

You do feel all the emotions both of them were going through do you believe in true love will after reading this book i enjoy the writhing style it was easy to read . I was just grip on the plot i just wanted them to be one happy family the book got love , paris , a handsome guy . Fun romance and a lovely family unit near the end . Both they characters were just caring and lovely i just wanted them to be so happy together could they be?
A fab book you all will enjoy reading this book

HOW TO BAKE THE PERFECT PECAN PIE BY GINA HENNING MY REVIEW 4 STARS A GREAT FUN BOOK TO READ

HOW TO BAKE THE PERFECT PECAN PIE BY GINA HENNING

THE BLURB
A warm pie. A tasty guy. Happy Thanksgiving indeed.

Lauren Hauser is home for the holidays, and she’s been given a challenge: preparing her grandmother’s pecan pie. The problem? Lauren’s not famed for her baking skills. In fact, while her sister would win Star Baker every week, and her mom at least knows a sieve from a spatula, Lauren’s bakes have always been more dangerous than delicious!

Still, no Thanksgiving would be complete without dessert…which is why Lauren finds herself searching for pecans on Thanksgiving Eve. Stumbling into a gorgeous stranger laden down with bags of pecans seems like a holiday miracle…but despite Jack’s kissable lips he’s frostier than a snow cone…and out of sight before she can say ‘Macy’s Parade’!

As the clock counts down to Thanksgiving dinner, Lauren is running out of time. And without her grandmother’s perfect pecan pie it won’t be a very Happy Thanksgiving! What Lauren needs is a knight in shining armour. And it might just be that the magic of Thanksgiving will find her one after all…

Home for the Holidays series of books

Book 1 – How to Bake the Perfect Pecan Pie

Book 2 – How to Bake the Perfect Christmas Cake

Book 3 – Coming just in time for the 4th of July

WHAT I SAY
As you can see this book is the first book in this Holiday series it so good you will just love it
Again i love the cover .I always find that Carina books cover instantly draw me to their books they are just so cute and colourful. I just love them all .
I pick this book to review today on my blog for thanksgiving as this book all about that . It a nice warm heart novella you will love the story .It got cooking , love , family fun , pecan pie and a nice man jack what more could you want .oh and lots of pecan or not !

Lauren not very good at cooking she could be a bit dangerous at times but she just made me smile at her cooking . This Thanksgiving she going to make her grandmother pecan pie she been given her family secret recipe her mum and sister do not know .what is this recipe ? it be a secret for years and she got to keep it that way . Can she make it omg you will laugh so much at her making this pie . She been told only to use Tibor’s pecan farm as they do the best pecan she got to get them . Can she do this ? We get to hear all about her trying to get the pecan and how she makes the pie .The book told from Lauren point of view which i liked she could be so funny at times .

All her family were just great characters so crazy and funny but they also seem to be bickering a lot to just like all family do but that just made them more real to me you could relate to them i enjoyed reading about them all they bring the plot to life for me such fun .

All they wanted for Lauren was her to be happy and have a man in her life could that be Jack she spend a day baking with him i not sure why ? They seem to work well together could this be the started of something good ? Did they make the perfect pecan pie ?

I enjoyed their relationship it was fun to read some parts were a little predictable but i still enjoy the plot it did not put me off i just wanted to read to see what was going to happen next with the pecan pie , jack and her family.

The big build to Thanksgiving is just like what we all do here in England for christmas day . We go mad i say each year i not doing .I still do ,i buy and make to much food. I bet you all do too but i love the build up i did in this story too it was so fun to read .

Did you think Jack was Lauren knight in shinning armour ?
It a very warm and light hearted read it got a lot of mishap which brought the fun to the story i just loved all the characters they were so fun and very much like a real family .
My only criticism was is to short i want to hear more but that what make it so good it a great fun read nice for this time of year
4 stars read enjoy pass on i recommend you all read you will enjoy it so much
I can not want for the next book .

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY TO YOUR ALL. A FEW FACTS ON THANKSGIVING ON MY BLOG TODAY

Aj book review club's photo.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY TO YOU ALL

WHAT IS IT ?
Thanksgiving Day in the United States is traditionally a holiday to give thanks for the food collected at the end of the harvest season.

Thanksgiving Day in the United States is a holiday on the fourth Thursday of November. It precedes Black Friday

Aj book review club's photo.
WHAT DO PEOPLE DO ?
Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have

Thanksgiving Day parades are held in some cities and towns on or around Thanksgiving Day. Some parades or festivities also mark the opening of the Christmas shopping season. Some people have a four-day weekend so it is a popular time for trips and to visit family and friends.

THE MACY PARADE IN NEW YORK IS FAB I WHEN IN 2013 I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY SO WONDERFUL SO BRIGH AND COLOURFUL SO MUCH FUN I  ALSO BEEN IN LAS VEGAS FOR IT I NEVER SEEN FIRE WORKS LIKE I DID THERE

Many offices, businesses, schools and other organizations are closed on Thanksgiving Day. Many offices and businesses allow staff to have a four-day weekend so these offices and businesses are also closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day. Public transit systems do not usually operate on their regular timetables.

Thanksgiving Day it is one of the busiest periods for travel in the USA. This can cause congestion and overcrowding. Seasonal parades and busy football games can cause disruption to local traffic

A FEW FACTS
Thanksgiving Day has been an annual holiday in the United States since 1863. Not everyone sees Thanksgiving Day as a cause for celebration. Each year since 1970, a group of Native Americans and their supporters have staged a protest for a National Day of Mourning at Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Thanksgiving Day. American Indian Heritage Day is also observed at this time of the year.

There are claims that the first Thanksgiving Day was held in the city of El Paso, Texas in 1598. Another early event was held in 1619 in the Virginia Colony. Many people trace the origins of the modern Thanksgiving Day to the harvest celebration that the Pilgrims held in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621. However, their first true thanksgiving was in 1623, when they gave thanks for rain that ended a drought. These early thanksgivings took the form of a special church service, rather than a feast.

In the second half of the 1600s, thanksgivings after the harvest became more common and started to become annual events. However, it was celebrated on different days in different communities and in some places there were more than one thanksgiving each year. George Washington, the first president of the United States, proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day in 1789

THANK YOU FOR READING MY POST I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY YOUR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND  HAVE LOTS OF FUN AJ X

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all i doing a few thanksgiving post my first is a recipe for pecan pie

 Aj book review club's photo.

PECAN PIE RECIPE

I LOVE THIS PIE SO MUCH THIS IS HOW MY MUM MAKES IT

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE

500g pack sweet shortcrust pastry
flour, for dusting
75g butter, softened
100g golden caster sugar
175g golden syrup
175g maple syrup
3 eggs, beaten
½ tsp vanilla extract
300g pecan halves
double cream, whipped, to serve

HOW TO MAKE

Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface and use to line a 23cm tart tin – keep any leftover pastry in case you need to fill any cracks after blind-baking. Prick the base with a fork and chill for 30 mins or until firm.

Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Line the pastry case with baking parchment, fill with baking beans and bake for 15-20 mins until the sides are set. Remove the beans and parchment and return to the oven for 5-10 mins until the base is set and the pastry is golden. Leave to cool.

Increase oven to 200C/190C fan/gas 6. Beat the butter and sugar together with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Keep the beaters going and pour in both of the syrups. Gradually add the eggs, 1⁄4 tsp salt and the vanilla, then whisk until combined. Stir through the nuts and pour into the tart case. Bake for 10 mins. Turn heat down to 160C/140C fan/gas 3 and continue baking for 30-35 mins – the pie should be golden brown but the filling should wobble a little in the centre when shaken. Leave to cool in the tin. You’ll probably need to run a knife down the side of the tin to release the pie. Serve with whipped cream.

Any one had pecan pie i love it do you ?

THERE ARE NO MEN BY CAROL MALONEY SCOTT MY REVIEW FOR THIS FAB FUN BOOK 5 STARS YOU GOT TO READ IT

Aj book review club's photo.Aj book review club's photo.

THERE ARE NO MEN BY CAROL MALONEY SCOTT

THE BLURB
Divorced thirty-something Claire doesn’t know who’s in her dating pool—but she’s doing her best to avoid shark infested waters. Leaving her clueless and insensitive husband behind was a smart move after losing her fertility, but now she’s riding the wave of flying toupees, strange men in leather thongs and drunken nights in painfully impractical shoes. Claire desperately wanted to be a mother, but now she’ll settle for one middle aged man worthy of a second date. After a long drought, men are flooding her shores and she’s drowning in choices. There’s Justin, the 25-year-old IT boy-genius with the GQ looks and cougar fetish, who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. A woman would have to be a blind, lesbian nun not to fall for him, but he reminds Claire of her wasted youth. And then the charming but mysterious Dr. Nathan appears, but he’s cheating on her with his medical mistress—a demanding cardiology practice. To further rock her boat, Claire’s ‘stable’ career in publishing has been tossed about by her floundering company’s launch of a new line of trendy, salacious books. Cookbooks aren’t selling these days, but erotica is flying off the shelves—and challenging Claire’s attitude about sex, work . . . and her tempestuous new life. When her best friend convinces her to buddy up to the aspiring writer who just moved in across the street, Claire rejects the idea—he has already caught her in more than one embarrassing and scantily clad situation. Giving in to her friend’s nudging, she tries to ignore the details she discovers about him, including his hard rock night gig and his mesmerizing blue eyes, in the hopes his literary talents can pull her publishing house up from the bottom of the ocean. Claire’s dilemma begs the question: Are there NO men or TOO MANY?

WHAT I SAY
I would like to to thank Carol for sending me her book to read . I have not read or hear of carol before and was not sure what it would be like but the book was very good and a nice easy read and very funny too you will enjoy it so much . All the character become my friends i was part of the fun story .

As soon as i start to read i was hooked into the plot it just captured my attention very fast it will makes you laugh but then some parts were very sad but i felt were told very well . I like Carol writing style it was easy to follow.

Claire the main characters ,she was so funny i just loved her she become my friends .Some times i wanted to go mad at her other i want to cry with her . She was just lovely she was now divorced and was trying to get back into the dating world this will make you smile and you will want to scream at her to see sense at some parts . I like that she was just so much fun she could be crazy .fun and so clumsy just like us all . You could really relate to her as a person she will be just like your best friend who share her life with you and you just want to tell how what you feel best for her . You will just love her the minute you start to read about her . You will just want her to be happy and find her mr right but is there such a thing for her ?
Her pet dog Dixie i just enjoy him in this story he just make me smile i got family that love their dog like a child . Just like she did they talk to it to .

I did find claire issue very heart breaking to .All the miscarriage she experienced were told in a very nice way i did feel that the infertility part was put across so well it not a very much talk about subject i felt carol wanted to capture this pain and heart ache which she did . i think the issue was told so well it was so sad to hear it just makes you think about the experience she went through and how people cope it must be so hard as children are all over the place claire did not want to be near any children claire calls kid ‘ the mess ‘ it got to be very hard to avoid kids but claire try so hard to do this i really felt for her it very touching

Claire just going to date older man now omg this cause so much fun i just love it you got to read her dates they were so very funny .Some guys were so not her at all and some were just werdos you do get a few from internet dating i just enjoy hearing about all these fun dates it brought the story to life for me i think these things can happen on a date
I hate to go on one i been very lucky to have not been on any .

I felt claire grew up a lot as the story when on she become a stronger person she felt she started to believe in her self more she had so much to offer the right person she got a very good job which she seem to enjoy but cooking books are not selling much now what will she but put on next ? i enjoyed hearing about her job so will you .She is just so full of life which i loved about her i just loved all her misadventures and her crazy antics . They will just make you laugh out loud .
Can she be happy i hope so .
The book very well written i felt the story had some very deep issue which i felt were very well researched and were put across so well would you have coped as well ? I did think in some places claire was trying to fit in to much .The whole story was so fun to read it had a bit of everything love , friendships . Heartache and dating .When you do split up you do feel so hurt and you feel you will never meet any one but you do will it be your mr right ? We all can learn from are disappointment and learn from them to which i think carol did .

The book about getting your life back on track we all can do it it make take time we all can better are selfs but i do think we have to learn to love are self first . we have to take what life throw at us sometimes but we have to take the good with the bad . We all have rough time and we can come out the other side happy .It just so funny and a heartwarming read
It just a great fun book a very unique story it a very good read i just wanted to read to see what was going to happen next you just seem to flow with the story it just so easy to read it wrote in a very fun way like you are they with claire just a good book

Aj book review club's photo.HERE A BIT ABOUT CAROL
My name is Carol, and I’m addicted to Romance. I grew up in the Hudson Valley area of New York, surrounded by “city folk,” like my Manhattanite mom and Bronx-native Dad, who taught me to be sweet on the outside, yet tough on the inside. As a result, I’m often gifted sassy labels like “firecracker” or “feisty,” which I choose to take as a compliment, due to my Irish/Eastern European heritage. My romantic history is as real (and complicated) as that of the heroines in my novels. I’ve been divorced, relocated, plunged fearlessly into the turbulent waters of online dating—only to retreat, yelping, at the occasionally shocking climate before bravely renewing my efforts—until finally, I grabbed hold of happiness and refused to let go. While I did eventually find my “HEA” in the form of a real life relationship, I also fell in love with writing, and it’s a romance I can’t get enough of. That’s why I can’t help chasing after that thrill of first love, of never-ending passion, of self-discovery, of romance—even if that chase leads me to (and sometimes over) the edge

Q& A WITH AUTHOR CAROL MALONEY SCOTT HER BOOK THERE ARE NO MEN IS FAB 5 STARS

Aj book review club's photo.Aj book review club's photo.

I LIKE TO WELCOME CAROL MALONEY SCOTT ON MY BLOG MY REVIEW FOR There Are No Men WILL FOLLOW LATER

1 WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE ?
Happiness. Being where I want to be in life.
As a little girl I wrote non-stop, churning out story after story. Then it all stopped in adolescence – so I had writer’s block for about 30 years.

Now the flood gates have opened, and the universe has unplugged my creative blockage – and the words are flying out of me. In the car – I have to pull off the road. In the shower – I need waterproof paper. In bed – I dream of new stories and have to sleep with my iPhone and it’s many lists.

So that bitch, Writer’s Block, is now history. The words are flowing like a waterfall or the liquor at an Irish wedding. I am no longer expecting any dry days ahead, now that I have rediscovered my first love.

I write because I can’t stop. I love it.

2 DID YOU BASE YOUR CHARACTER ON PEOPLE YOU KNOW ?
Yes, there are few characters based on people I know. Claire’s family – her sister, Jackie, and her parents, Claire and John, are very much like my sister, Jennifer, and my parents, Carol and Ed. Some minor characters – like Audra and Rachel, are based on friends. And Jane and Mike are VERY much like my friend, Jill and her husband. As for the men – let’s leave that one a mystery…J
3 WERE DID YOUR IDEA FOR THIS WONDERFUL BOOK COME FROM?
This book is loosely based on some of my own life experiences as a divorced woman trying to find love after being with one man since my high school years. Claire and I also share pregnancy loss and hysterectomy, although I am blessed with one healthy and hilarious child, a soon to be 20 year old son.
I wanted to capture the pain of infertility and the fear of dating after divorce, with the hope of new love and learning that there are different ways to reach our goals.
These messages are carefully hidden in the midst of crazy antics and hilarious misadventures. Just like in real life.

4 HOW SHOULD WE KEEP LOVE ALIVE ?
Communication. In all forms. Talking, touching, etc. I also think having shared activities and things to look forward to together keep love alive. Avoiding routine and boredom is challenging in a relationship, but helps to make things feel new and energized. And finally, forgive more than you blame. Everything that goes wrong doesn’t have to be someone’s fault.

5 DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE CHARACTER AND WHY ?
I love Brandon. He is sweet, handsome, loving and creative. He is also real – he gets mad and frustrated with Claire, and holds her accountable. He is shy in love and has a hard time expressing his feelings, but when he does it is powerful. Plus he loves Claire’s wiener dog, Dixie.

6 WHAT NEXT FOR YOU AS A WRITER ?
I am 119 pages into the first draft of my second novel, “Afraid of Her Shadow.” In this story Rebecca, (who is Claire’s’ friend in TANM) is dating a widower. The relationship is getting serious and she is facing her fears regarding ghosts and her boyfriend’s attachment to his late wife. But is that really the problem? Or is the fear of commitment making her jumpy? Is it the late wife’s pictures staring at her from the walls? Or the confusion over the return of her smoking hot ex?

Either way, poor Rebecca is knee deep in the craziness on her journey from single forty-something, cat-loving career woman to committed live-in girlfriend, while managing interfering family, a surly teenager, a very fluffy dog, and more baggage than she can take to Goodwill.

So yes, now I am working on making death funny. Kind of like “Death at a Funeral” but without the British people or the actual body. Also no blackmailing little people.

7 DID THE DRAMA OF THE BOOK HAPPEN IN A REAL LIFE OR IS IT JUST YOUR IMAGINATION ?
Some of the things happened in real life, but even those things are fictionalized and embellished to drive this unique story. There really was an old man with a hat.

8 WHAT BOOKS DO YOU LIKE TO READ ?
I read a wide variety of books. Romance, chick lit, humor, literary fiction, even an occasional fantasy or sci fi. I stay away from horror and erotica. The first because I don’t like graphic violence and the second just because it bores me.

9 DO YOU PERFER BOOK OR KINDLE AND WHY ?
I have only had a Kindle for about a year and a half. I bought one when I decided to start writing and publishing e-books. I still prefer to hold a book in my hand, but I have come to appreciate and enjoy the flexibility of carrying 30 books with me wherever I go. But I will never tire of real books. I love to look at them on my shelves.

10 WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO WRITE AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DRINK ?
I write in my office, which is a small bedroom converted into an office space in my home. I usually drink Coke or juice. I like snacks, too – trail mix with M&M’s. Oh, I just remembered I have some downstairs and should be munching on that right now!

11 DO YOU HAVE A AUTHOR THAT AT CHRISTMAS YOU HAVE TO BUY THIER BOOK ?
No, not at all, but I would love some recommendations. I feel like I’m missing out.

12 WOULD YOU EVERY DO A CHRISTMAS BOOK ?
I would certainly be open to it, and my third book will actually take place during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays, so that will be the back drop. It will be a continuation of Claire’s story, a couple of years later.

13 DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGNT ?
No. I think real love needs time to develop. However, I do believe in a connection at first in-person communication (email does NOT count!). I was hooked the first time I spoke to my fiancé Jim, even though I was dating someone else at the time. I had already known who he was, through mutual friends, but talking to him made the connection come alive. I always found him attractive before I spoke to him, but the spark was forged by words and gestures, not just sight.

14 WHAT YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS FOOD ?
I love food. Period. Every Christmas I make stuffed shells and bring them to Christmas Eve parties and anywhere I may be invited during the holidays. It’s a pretty simple, but time consuming dish that everyone loves. Even though I am of primarily Irish descent, I grew up in New York, where Italian food is very common and adored.

15 HOW LONG CAN A BOOK TAKE YOU TO WRITE AND HOW LONG DO YOU SIT TO WRITE FOR IN A DAY ?
I wrote and released my first book in 11 months, which was quite a feat since it was my first book AND I have a full time job AND I moved into my fiancé’s house, combining our two homes into one.
I hope to have my second book, Afraid of Her Shadow, out in less time, however I am still very busy – now with wedding planning! I am shooting for a spring release date.
I try very hard to carve out 1-2 hours at least 5 times a week to write. Sometimes I do better and sometimes life gets in the way. I remain flexible and forward thinking. Plus I love it, so it never feels like work.

16 I LOVE NEW YORK I BEEN 6 TIMES NOW WHAT WOULD YOUR IDEA DATE BE AND WERE WOULD YOU GO ?
If I can travel for the date, as you did, I would like to stay on a houseboat in Amsterdam. Explore the museums and shopping, enjoy the water and walk many miles together soaking up the local culture. And of course, eating fabulous food and drinking good wine, while listening to some rocking live music.

17 CAN YOU TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR SELF
I am 46, divorced, and soon to be married to a wonderful man. I have a 20 year old son and a 5 year old wiener dog named Daisy. I live in Richmond, VA and I moved here from New York 15 years ago. I hold a fun and challenging day job in corporate HR and training.
Here’s my official “author bio”:
My name is Carol, and I’m addicted to Romance.

I grew up in the Hudson Valley area of New York, surrounded by “city folk,” like my Manhattanite mom and Bronx-native Dad, who taught me to be sweet on the outside, yet tough on the inside.

As a result, I’m often gifted sassy labels like “firecracker” or “feisty,” which I choose to take as a compliment, due to my Irish/Eastern European heritage.

My romantic history is as real (and complicated) as that of the heroines in my novels. I’ve been divorced, relocated, plunged fearlessly into the turbulent waters of online dating–only to retreat, yelping, at the occasionally shocking climate before bravely renewing my efforts–until finally, I grabbed hold of happiness and refused to let go.

While I did eventually find my “HEA” in the form of a real life relationship, I also fell in love with writing, and it’s a romance I can’t get enough of.

That’s why I can’t help chasing after that thrill of first love, of never-ending passion, of self-discovery, of romance–even if that chase leads me to (and sometimes over) the edge.

18 WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A MAN ?
Honesty, patience, kindness, maturity and flexibility. And number one – a sense of humor. Laughing cures most of life’s ills.

19 IF YOU PICK ONE CHARACTER YOU COULD CHANGE WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY ?
I would develop Rebecca a little more, since she is the main character in my new novel. But maybe leaving her life shrouded in mystery in There Are No Men makes the new novel even more interesting. We’ll see.

20. CAN YOU TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR BOOK IF SOMEONE NOT READ IT ?
It’s a story of hope and second chances. Overcoming disappointments and learning from them. Plus I am told it is hilarious and heartwarming. Sounds like a good book to check out.
