The Great Christmas Knit Off by Alexandra Brown

The perfect seasonal tale of how laughter, friends and wacky Christmas jumpers can mend a broken heart. For fans of Trisha Ashley and Jenny Colgan.

Heartbroken after being jilted at the altar, Sybil has been saved from despair by her knitting obsession and now her home is filled to bursting with tea cosies, bobble hats, and jumpers. But, after discovering that she may have perpetrated the cock-up of the century at work, Sybil decides to make a hasty exit and, just weeks before Christmas, runs away to the picturesque village of Tindledale.

There, Sybil discovers Hettie’s House of Haberdashery, an emporium dedicated to the world of knitting and needle craft. But Hettie, the outspoken octogenarian owner, is struggling and now the shop is due for closure. And when Hettie decides that Sybil’s wonderfully wacky Christmas jumpers are just the thing to add a bit of excitement to her window display, something miraculous starts to happen…

Wow what I can say about this book other than what a fantastic read. It is the first book I have read of Alexandra Brown and I will definitely look out for more by her. It has a great feel good factor and although it says Christmas knit off I can imagine myself cwtched up on a chair under a fleecy blanket with a hot chocolate on a lovely snowy day. It has such a warming happy feel to it.

I don’t want to give the plot away but will say that initially Sybil is in shock and suffering with depression after being jilted at the altar and possibly making a massive mistake in work. The shock sends her seeking out her best friend in her new placement in a village pub in Tindledale. When she gets there she meets they friendly villagers and starts to see things in a new light. Her passion for knitting as always helped her to forget her problems and maybe this will help her now!!!

I am keeping this book at the front of my shelf for the snowy day I am hoping we get this year. I wish I had read it prior to forwarding my top ten as it would definitely be in it. Well done Alexandra.
