HOW TO BAKE THE PERFECT APPLE PIE BY GINA HENNING

How to Bake the Perfect Applie Pie is the third book about Lauren and Jack. They are engaged, but unfortunately that doesn’t mean their relationship is stable. They have to make the long distance thing work for the time being and that is more difficult than they thought. Lauren doesn’t want to leave her job as that would be career suicide and Jack can’t leave his. They also both have colleagues of the opposite sex who really like them which makes matters more complex. Will Jack and Lauren be able to sort things out?

It was great to read about Lauren and Jack again. This time Lauren’s grandmother has given her the recipe for an apple pie she has to make for a contest. Lauren has no idea why her grandmother has given her these instructions, but she’s giving it a try. I liked reading about the baking, but the pie element is less important in this book than it was in the previous two books of the series and I missed it a little.

Lauren is mostly sad, but she doesn’t tell Jack how she feels. She keeps it all inside until it’s getting too much. I felt really bad for her and think she could have used a good friend. I also started to get more and more angry with Jack and think she forgave him way too easily. I wished there would have been more depth in this part of the story. I hope they will have their happy ending and can’t wait to read more about it in the next book of the series.

Tanya Monday review Summer of Love Katie Fforde

Tanya Monday review

Summer of Love Katie Fforde

Aj book review club's photo.

I have had this book on my shelf from a spending spree back in January and it started shouting read me. I am glad that I did as it has a great feel good feel to it and is something you really need at the end of the summer holidays.

Sian Bishop is a single mum to a lovely 4 year old boy called Rory and she has recently moved to the countryside to give her son a better attempt at schooling which did not seem to suit him in London. She is very independent and self-sufficient woman that is a brilliant artist and is working hard at building up a business as an up cycler. She has a friendly relationship with Richard who would like to take things further and become a couple?

She quickly makes friends with her neighbour, Fiona Matcham, who lives in a large house that needs a lot of sorting out. The two may be of different generations but they get on extremely well and are soon an important part in each other’s as well as Rory’s life. Things turn around when Angus Fiona’s son returns home!!!

Will Sian ever be truly happy? Does Rory need a male influence in his life with stability?

The story had a few twists but to be honest I expected a few. I liked how Fiona developed a relationship and showed how grandmothers can still have urges!

You find yourself wanting what is best for all the characters in the book and feel like bashing some heads together at some point. Even the not so nice characters are pretty nice in the end.7

George’s Marvellous Medicine by roald dahl and BFG

Aj book review club's photo.

Why had I not read this roald dahl book
George’s Marvellous Medicine

I would say this book aim at children seven years or above I had not read this book as a kid so I found a copy to read I love the outrageous in the story and it such a thrilling read for any age
It a very enjoyable read I loved George he such a lovely boy he lives on the farm with his mum and dad one day he left with his nasty Grandma she seem very mean she was so horrible she need her medicine at 11 o clock so this day George makes his own medicine he uses some very wrong things so please kids do not copy as some were very dangerous
But the results were so funny and unexpected you got to read to see it he then try on animals wow to what happens
The story packed lots of comedy moments he got a wonderful writing style so unique I loved all the images in this book a brilliant book

Tanya favourite book by Roald Dahl
I had to think quite hard which is my favourite Roald Dahl book and then I remembered the BFG. What child did not dream of Giants and the adventures? I loved the fact that the BFG spread happy dreams and that his ears were so big. The description of him always enthralled me as did the story. The mispronunciation of words and the made up words he would use for wind and other things always managed to make me smile and when reading it out loud to a class of children they would always end up giggling (mind you that may have been the voices or actions that I used).

A close second was Charlie and the chocolate factory which again allows the reader to imagine strange places and rooms as well as beings. Again I enjoy putting on silly voices when reading this and maybe too the odd silly dance to the rhymes.

I think the books are so good because they allow the child to imagine outside what is perceived as normal

TODAY IS ROALD DAHL BIRTHDAY a few facts

TODAY IS ROALD DAHL BIRTHDAY TO ME HE ONE OF THE BEST AUTHOR OF CHILDREN BOOK EVER
A FEW FACTS ABOUT HIM

Aj book review club's photo.

Dahl has such an unusual first name due to fact that his parents spelt his name wrong on the Register of Births. From this non-literary background came one of the masters of children’s literature.

His dad was Norwegian when he was 14 he had a terrible accident and had to have his left arm amputated . As a young man Harald moved to Cardiff to set up a very successful shipbroking business

Sofia his mum was also Norwegian she married Harald in 1911 they had 5 children Roald was the only boy

At 7 Roald sister Astri died of appendicitis his dad died of a broken heart 3 months later roald himself was only 3 at the time
There went each year on holiday to Norway

Today Roald Dahl is one of the worlds most beloved children writes he was born in wales He was educated in England .He work for shell oil in Africa and during war world2 he was a air force pilot

He died on the 23th of November 1990

Roald had 5 children himself one of his son died at 7 of measles that was the same that his sister died at .

Roald wrote in pencil only a yellow pencil with a rubber on the end he would get 6 ready before he started to write they would last a hour before he need to resharpend
He would also only write in american yellow legal pads he got them from New York
When Roald had finished writing he would gave Wendy his secretary the pile of yellow paper to turn into a neat printed manuscript to be sent to the publisher

Charlie and the chocolate factory is one of his best know book it came out in 1964 and still one of the most read children book today i loved the film too

Roald Dahl was writing a third Charlie Bucket story, Charlie Bucket and the White House, but he died before the book could be completed.

Dahl often based his characters on people he had met in real life. For example, it is said that the grandmother in The Witches is inspired by his own mother, Sofie.

His teachers didn’t think he was very good at writing when he was at school, but Roald Dahl excelled at sport. He was a very good footballer and he enjoyed playing squash.

Roald is must less well know for his help with seriously ill children

A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS BY HIM

George’s Marvellous Medicine, because of the dog’s bottom mouth description of Grandma!

Lucy says Very hard to choose. Probably The Twits, because they were just so fabulusly horrible to each other.

Gina says Matilda because it was such an adventure & The BFG because he was so sweet. https://t.co/F9qDhSl1Gh

Gurd
George’s Marvellous Medicine! It was full of laughs & really exciting.

About June Moonbridge

Aj book review club's photo.
The person behind the name of June Moonbridge, has many names and many faces too. Although living in the same area, she was born and raised in one country and now living in another.

She studied economics, and quickly realised she hated it. Afterwards, she found herself working in mainly male businesses; at first in automotive and later – steel products productions. She can choose for you the best steel you need, but don’t, please don’t, ask her which lipstick to use.

She started to write in her high school and was negatively criticised by her teacher. Stubborn as she is that didn’t stop her. Under different pen names for her stories she tried to get some independent opinions, which came back as good reviews in magazines and later she published three books.

Giving birth to two children, and learning that her second child has Autism, she married the father of them and continued to work. All that together took all of her free time. But the desire to write didn’t die. When life somehow sorted itself out, she decided to write her novel in English and her first submission to Safkhet was rejected…

For what happened later… read third paragraph, second sentence.
