Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
Mercedes doesn’t live in a happy home. The relationship with her mother isn’t what she wants it to be in any way. Mercedes is intelligent and wants to go to MIT. She’s good at more than science, she’s also good at sex. She tutors guys so they can make the first time memorable for their girlfriends.

Meanwhile she’s also meeting someone she actually likes, but she doesn’t want him to get too close. She’s keeping too many secrets and they might come out… Firsts has an original topic, which is something I liked.

I also liked that the main character has various layers. She’s really smart and gets good grades, but emotionally things aren’t so great for her. She started tutoring the guys because she wanted to do something good. I think it’s an interesting topic for a book.

It’s something I definitely liked about this story.

There’s a lot Mercedes still has to learn and I felt bad for her because of the lack of emotion at home. She’s craving something she doesn’t get and when someone shows it to her she doesn’t know what to do with it. I think that’s a good subject for a book. The only thing that didn’t really work for me was that the story didn’t come to life for me so well. I missed a certain spark.

There’s a lot of drama, but some things could have been a bit less cliche. The writing is good though and I think a lot of people will love this book.
